The team at Comfort C.A.F.E provide Care, Advice, Food, & Encouragement to those in need.
Operating out of St. Thomas's Church Parish Centre in Blackpool, Comfort C.A.F.E. supports those experiencing homelessness and struggling members of the community by providing free meals and friendly conversation.
Every Tuesday, a team of volunteers at the church open their doors to 80+ local people for a weekly ‘drop-in’ session. Attendees are served a hot meal, prepared and cooked by the volunteers, and can access free services such as a wellbeing counsellor, NHS vaccinations, housing advisors, and even a hairdressing/beard trimming service.
The catchment area around the church is one of the most deprived areas in Blackpool, so Comfort C.A.F.E. provides much needed relief to those struggling with high costs, hunger, and mental health issues. After receiving their meal, attendees can expect a filled barmcake to take away, and clothing and additional food items are also available at most sessions.
Comfort C.A.F.E. serves as a welcoming and non-judgemental community for those that need it most. Volunteers make a point to greet every single person who walks through the door, whether they be a regular or using the service for the first time, and try to find time to chat whenever possible. For some, this is the only community activity they can engage in, so the weekly sessions serve as a vital social lifeline.
The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme are delighted to donate £5,000 to Comfort C.A.F.E. which will help cover the costs of providing hot food and takeaway meals throughout the year.
